"Yeah everyone has made mistakes, however, everyone has NOT said made inappropriate comments to children like Shane has."

Ryland Adams has addressed his fiancé Shane Dawson's past offensive content in a new YouTube video.

On June 26, Shane shared a video titled "Taking Accountability" in which he apologised for using the N-word, blackface and making paedophilic jokes. The YouTuber was also involved in the beauty community drama (dubbed Karmageddon) where he and Jeffree Star were accused of manipulating Tati Westbrook into posting the infamous "Bye Sister" video about James Charles in May 2019.

At the time, Shane and Ryland slammed Tati for making the video but they've remained pretty much silent on social media ever since. That was until Tuesday (Aug 4), when Ryland shared his first video "My Past, My Present, and My Future (30 Days of Meditation)" since June 23.

Ryland, who has been in a relationship with Shane for four years, started the video by saying he wanted to acknowledge what had been going on with Shane before he resumed posting again. "I understand that Shane's made highly insensitive and offensive jokes and I know that while they were far in his past it's hard to separate that person from who he is today, especially when you've seen them in realtime and you're hurt right now," he explained.

"I can never take that away from you and I would never say that you have to take his apology or even ask you do that. At some point, I hope we can champion change and growth over cancelling someone all together or going for the absolute worst on the internet and I say this because I know Shane has had to address his past more than most people in the world."

He added: "It's forced him to look into what he did, its impact, and really truly grow from that. I think if you've been watching Shane for a long time you know he's a genuine person with good intentions."

Ryland went on to say that everyone has something in their past that they're not proud of. "I don't think that takes away from the incredible content he's put out over the years," he continued.

Needless to say, fans thought Ryland was making excuses for Shane's past behaviour.

Ryland's video comes shortly after his sister Morgan Adams spoke about Shane in a video titled "a chat about life" shared on July 29. Morgan, who unfollowed Jeffree Star when it all started to kick off, said she didn't want to be involved in the drama. Speaking of his old and offensive videos, she said: "I don't like them, I don't agree with them, it makes me uncomfortable to watch them, because when I watch them I'm like, 'who is that?' I don't feel like that's a person that I know."

She continued: "It's a difficult situation because I'm not coming at this from the viewpoint and the perspective of somebody who has watched Shane on the internet for years. This is somebody that I hang out with in my real life. This is somebody that I consider to be a friend, a mentor, a family member. I just wanted to say that I'm not defending anything that has been said in the past, anything that has been done in the past, but... the Shane that I hang out with, and that I have lived with, has always just been gracious, and kind, and understanding. He's always been willing to help everyone.

"I see these old videos of Shane and I'm like, wow, I don't even recognise that person."
